Wakefield High School is one of ten schools in the Nation to receive the Exemplary Program with Honors award from the American Association of Teachers of French. The AAFT are pleased to recognize the high achievement of the teachers and students in the French program at Wakefield.

French teacher Kathryn Wheelock said, “This award reflects the dedication and support of all who encourage their students to continue in French.” The school has increased its enrollment in French through the past four years. The program allows students to get early language learning in middle school, as well as advanced courses in high school. The French program received the honor because of its innovative and creative teaching methods, gives standards-based assessments, and offers numerous cultural activities.

French teacher Susan Haley said, ” It is rewarding to work with such a great group of students, parents and colleagues.” Wakefield’s French teachers prepare their students for interest in potential teaching, businesses, or government careers with their acquired language skills. They want the students to use their French skills through out life.

Please congratulate the French students and teachers when you see them in the hallways. This is a rare honor, #warriornation.
