How to Prepare for Hurricanes: One Month Left for Atlantic Hurricane Season

According to The Atlantic, President Obama said of the storm, “the big concern at this point is storm surge.”

The first two weeks of October showed us what nature can really do to the East Coast. When Hurricane Matthew hit the U.S. coast, it dissipated from a Category 5  to a Category 1. It still brought a lot of damage, including floods in towns of North Carolina and damage to other states. It left countless people without the use of electricity.

The Atlantic Hurricane season lasts through the end of November.

So, how do you prepare yourselves for a hurricane?

  1. Make sure you have water and non perishable food for a few days for each member of your family.
  2. Flashlights and batteries are a must when the power is out.
  3. Have a first aid kit on hand for small injuries when the lights go out.
  4. Keep your phone charged, but have a back up radio in case the towers go down.

The most important thing is to pay attention and keep in communication with family. Go here for more tips.
