Life As An Exchange Student: Last Semester

Life+As+An+Exchange+Student%3A+Last+Semester

As the last the of school approaches the air surrounding me fills with good byes and I’ll miss you’s; my year in Wakefield High School is coming to an end. At the beginning of the year the only thing I was looking forward to was to finish school as soon as possible; now I just want the days to go by slowly.

When the first semester began, I was not excited at all. I was scared and fearful of the fact that I might never fit in or make any friends. I saw other kids who were also new to this school make a lot of friends really fast. I believed there was something wrong with me, that I just didn’t fit in with anyone at all, that I might just be a “weirdo” without friends, but like I wrote in my first semester entry, there’s a place in Wakefield for everyone, you just gotta look for it. I had to look for it really hard, but by the beginning of the second semester I had  found mine, and was completely in love with it.

But, I don’t want to make this a sad article by saying how much I’m going to miss everything and everyone in school. Instead, I want to make this my thank you letter to Wakefield High School and everyone who made this school year one of the best I’ve ever had.

Before I came here I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with my life, where did I want to go to college, did I even wanted to go to college? What if I wasn’t good enough for it? and if I did go, what was I gonna major in? My mind was filled with these existential questions. I still remember the day I came to school to get my schedule arranged; Miss Almada asked me what I wanted to Major in. I said Law because it has always been my go to answer since everyone in my family is a lawyer.

Deep down inside of me, I knew that wasn’t what I wanted. She asked me if there were any other things I wanted to do, and I vaguely said I’ve always been interested in journalism and mass communications, so she suggested I take Journalism as an elective. I was so excited when I found out it was a class here and even more excited when I found out I was gonna have it every single day. If it  wasn’t for that, I would have never come to realize that I do want to major in journalism and mass communications, and for that I’m very thankful.

I, like everyone else have 7 classes, but I also have 7 amazing teachers who taught me so much, not only school education wise, but also lessons that will help me be a better person. I wished I could say that I had a favorite teacher, but honestly all of them are my favorite teachers. Each and everyone of you now have a special place in my heart.

My last piece of advice to anyone reading this is, enjoy every single day you’ve got here in Wakefield because you’re going to miss them, once you leave.
