Varsity Field Hockey Shows Hard Work and Perseverance Pays off
Our Varsity Field Hockey team is a force to be reckoned with! All the hard work and commitment by these ladies is paying off; the results are extremely evident at this point in the season. With a record of 7-2-2, our Lady Warriors are having their best season in Wakefield History!
Our field hockey team has come a long way the past few seasons. Two years ago, the team was filled with young talent and excitement. The girls had a rough year due to a lot of inexperience and youth on the team, but the coaches and players knew the talent was there. Last season, the team showed much improvement, posting a final record that put them just 2 games away from a winning season.
This is the year, #warriornation! This season, the team has turned a corner. The girls have been locked in on both offense and defense, outscoring their opponents 22-9. They have held their opponents scoreless in all 7 victories, and defense is key to a team that wants to keep winning games. “It means a lot. Being a senior when we are playing the way we are…it’s great!” said senior Lesly Sejas.
Lesly, as a Captain, is also a standout on the team. She started her field hockey career as a sophomore, and has been with the team ever since, witnessing all of the improvement. “The greatest part of it all is that everybody is doing their work and seeing the team working so hard.” Sejas is all about being a team player, and has been red hot lately, scoring Wakefield’s last 9 goals. “There’s so much to say…I just love my team!”
Heading into their 12th game of the season, the girls are currently 2-1 in conference play. They have three remaining conference games that will decide their seeding for the conference tournament at the end of the regular season.
Come out and support our girls as they battle for the #1 seed TONIGHT against Robert E. Lee High School!
It is important to show the love, @whssuperfans! Join them on Senior Night Thursday, October 13th against Edison to celebrate this momentous season.
All games start at 7:30.
Go Warriors!
