The first two horror movies of 2017 are still in theaters! And, they both happen to be competing against each other in box office sales.

First, let’s talk about Rings (2017). This movie has a lot to live up to since it’s the third in it’s series. This supernatural horror movie follows a girl as she, and the people around her, watch a scary video and are told shortly after watching it that they have 7 days until their death. After sacrificing herself (watching the video to transfer the evil deadline to herself) to save her boyfriend, she soon makes a shocking discovery. Throughout the movie there are many twists and turns guaranteed to keep the audience on the edge of their seats. However, it is more of a mystery movie than a scary movie. The ending is one of those “are you kidding me?” type of endings. If you like trying to play “detective” then this is the movie for you.

Now on to Split (2017). This movie follows three girls that are kidnapped by a man with 23 different personalities. While being held captive in an unknown location, these girls happen to meet someone new very often. However, it happens to still be the same man. Confused? I was, too. The “kidnapper” and main character, Kevin Wendell Crumb, just so happens to be Dennis, Patricia, Hedwig, Barry, Orwell, Jade and The Beast. The Beast, also known as the terrifying 24th personality, is unleashed towards the end; it plays a huge role in the plot of this movie. Split never has a dull moment and it really feels like you are in the actual movie. (People were gasping and screaming through out the entire movie in the theater.) The ending is crazy. (Huge shoutout to the film writers!) Overall, it is a great movie with a great ending.

I would go see Split five more times before I ever made it back to see Rings in the theater.
