For many years there has been a debate on which is better, the gummy worm or the gummy bear. The Chieftain decided to put it to the test! “Gummy bears are my life!” said sophomore Elena Arrowsmith. Junior Hunter Zlotnick said, “The gummy worms taste very…interesting.” It seems that The Chieftain can’t even make up their minds.

According to Germany.Info, gummy bears were invented in 1922. According to Leaf , gummi worms were invented in 1981. The gummy bear was invented long before the gummy worm came to be. In the short time it has been here, it has taken over in popularity among teens.

“The gummy bears are soft, smooth, and sweet.” said freshman Kimberly Rendon. ‘The gummy worms are harder to chew, and don’t have much flavor” added freshman Sophie Hott. Underclassmen seem to like the gummy bear more. Sophomore Qiao Huei said, “The worm looks more like a snake, and the detail of the face is not as cute as the gummy bear.”

Editor in Chief, and senior, Destiny Heid said, “I like sour gummi worms better than anything else.” Senior Kate Wright added, “gummi worms are better because they are fun to eat.”

I personally break the rule of underclassmen liking gummi bears better. I think the gummy worms are better because they’re more more fun to eat, and they take longer to chew, which is good because you can savor that flavor! Although people may think that taking longer to chew is a bad thing, I see it as a good thing. This way the candy lasts longer. Another reason why I think the Gummy Worm is better is because the Gummy Bear has too much flavor, and is a little over powering.

There are more underclassmen on The Chieftain, so the results or this unofficial survey leaned towards gummi bears.
