JP Goes To the Movies: Anchorman 2 The Legend Continues
January 30, 2014
119 Minutes
Director: Adam McKay
Starring: Will Ferrell, Christina Applegate, Paul Rudd
I must say I was quite skeptical about seeing the second installment of Anchorman. Sometimes because the first movie produced was so funny and there have been so many sequels that have just not has lived up to the first movie’s legacy the second comedy in a series usually disappoints me. However, this movie is every bit if not more funny than the first one. Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell) brings his mustache, fancy suits, and Baxter (his dog) to New York City and with his own style and comedy he turns the network news world upside down.
Will Ferrell is just as funny in this movie as he was nearly a decade ago when he first played this iconic role. Maybe because it is basically just the same story, slightly altered and in a different city. With the kind of comedy Will Ferrell and his co-stars Paul Rudd, David Koechner, and Steve Carrell bring to the big screen it really doesn’t matter what the story is, it’s the jokes that matter.
Despite it’s humor and comedy centered plot this movie actually provides us with a statement about how 24 hour news channels got started. This movie shows how the news started to appeal to more audiences with new kinds of broadcasting. Despite Anchorman trying to be hilarious in every single moment, this is actually an accurate look into the history of American television.
These kind of jokes necessitate an acquired taste. Some comedic actors and films resonate more with some people more than others because that’s just what they find funny. I would make your decision on whether or not to watch this movie based on wether or not you liked the previous Anchorman. This movie includes a number of celebrity cameos, countless hilarious scenes, and unforgettable lines that make this movie just as memorable as the first.
