Peppermint is the Pumpkin Spice of the Winter
Move aside pumpkin spice, there is a new flavor in town, and it’s peppermint! And what a better way to bring holiday cheer is with some delicious desserts to eat with friends and family!
Here are some ideas (and the ingredients) you can make at home.
Red Velvet Peppermint Thumbprints:
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 large egg
- 4 teaspoons red food coloring
- 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
- 2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 tablespoons baking cocoa
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups white baking chips
- 2 teaspoons canola oil
- 1/4 cup crushed peppermint candies
Molten Peppermint Chocolate Cake:
- 1/2 cup butter, cubed
- 4 ounces bittersweet chocolate, chopped
- 2 eggs
- 2 egg yolks
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- Confectioners’ sugar
Peppermint Hot Chocolate:
- 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 6 ounces bittersweet chocolate, chopped
- 3 drops peppermint oil
- Sweetened whipped cream, for garnish
- Chocolate shavings, for garnish
Peppermint Marshmallows:
- 3 envelopes 0.75 oz unflavored gelatin
- ½ cup cold water
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup light corn syrup
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
- ⅛ teaspoon salt
- Red food coloring
- ⅔ cup confectioners’ sugar sifted, plus more for dusting
