Senior Esteban Knorr just competed at the State level for Varsity Golf for the 2nd year in a row. Competing at the State level is a dream that most athletes don’t achieve. The sport of Golf is very competitive and in this sport, your teammates have no impact on your final results each round. It is just you and the course. Which makes this showing at States even more impressive.

Esteban had this to say of the State Championship, “I was 3rd this year and 4th last year. My score was one shot better this year. I got to compete against multiple D1 players.” Competing at such a high level must be tough. How does it improve Esteban’s game? “I really wanted to beat these golfers. I have been playing against them since I was 12 years old. Benjamin Newfield is a former State Champion at Yorktown, and I guess you could call it a county rivalry, but all I know is I beat him quite convincingly…for the fourth time.”

As the last State Competition at the high school level, what were Esteban’s expectations of the day? “I had aspirations of winning, but I am very happy with the Top 3 finish.” Now that the competition is over, what is next for this golfer? “I don’t know where I am going to college, but I am trying to play Golf and study Business.”

Any advice for future golfers? “No advice I can give will help you get to States. It is really difficult. It is very competitive.” As far as the future of the Varsity Golf Team, Esteban had this to say, “I had a great team this year, and I hope that Wakefield Golf does really well next year. We have a lot of young talent and hopefully we can win the county championship again.”

Congratulations on being top 3 in the State, Esteban!
