In honor of Black History Month, here are four book recommendations by different Black authors. There are so many amazing books to read. Make sure to check out these and other authors at the library, local bookshop, and other reading platforms.

On the Come Up by Angie Thomas
According to goodreads.com/-on-the-come-up, this novel is about a sixteen year old girl named Bri who wants to be a rapper since her dad died before he made it big, but things become more difficult when her mom loses her job. With the possibility of homelessness and the bills piling up, not only does Bri want to make it big, but she has to make it.

I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou
According to .goodreads/.I_Know_Why_the_Caged_Bird_Sings, this book is an autobiography about the author’s childhood and personal experiences. Sent by her mother to live with her devout, self-sufficient grandmother in a small Southern town, Maya and her brother, Bailey, endure the ache of abandonment and prejudice.

Felix Ever After by Kacen Callender
According to goodreads/-felix-ever-after, this novel is about a black transgender teenager named Felix Love. When he starts getting anonymous transphobic notes and his deadname gets posted on line, he starts planning his revenge. What he doesn’t expect is that his catfish plan ends him up in a love triangle.

James by Percival Everett
According to .goodreads-james, this book is a retelling of the classic story of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn from the perspective of Jim, the enslaved person with Huck in the original book. When he hears he’s going to be sold and separated from his wife and daughter forever, Jim hides on a nearby island until he can make a plan. Meanwhile, to escape his violent father who just returned to town, Huck Finn fakes his own death. When Huck meets Jim he promises him freedom, and the chaotic adventure begins.
