The start of 2025 brought many uncertainties. But finding out that Oreo created Oreo Flavored Oreos was not expected. This limited edition flavor is called Loaded Oreos and they are regular Oreos with Oreo cookie crumbs mixed in the creme filling.

Oreos were first sold in Hoboken, NJ. These chocolate sandwich cookies are iconic. So much so that “the street in New York City where Oreo originally debuted was renamed ‘Oreo Way’ to honor where the very first cookie in the very first Nabisco factory was located” according to sugar.org.

Did you know there is a “right way” to eat an Oreo? In 1923, “Nabisco launched an iconic advertising campaign with the slogan Twist, Lick, Dunk” according to rimping.com. The advertising worked, as everyone still eats Oreos over 100 years later. There are many different ways to eat and enjoy this sweet savory treat. My brother’s favorite way is to stick a fork in between the chocolate sandwich cookies, through the creme, and dip the whole thing into milk. But, of course, there’s no “wrong way” to eat them. 

Oreo’s marketing strategy is all about keeping things fun and fresh. The company does this by a continual release of special edition and limited edition flavors. They come out with new and limited-time flavors like Red Velvet, Birthday Cake, and even wild ones like Wasabi to get people excited. These new flavors help Oreo stay popular and grab attention, especially on social media. 

So, back to the Loaded Oreos, are they worth it?

Junior Jacob Downey said, “it tastes exactly the same as a normal oreo but with more cream and sugar. If you’re into that, it’s the right flavor for you.” So, is it right for everyone? No. According to junior Olivia Macias, “it has a great flavor, I just didn’t like how much frosting it had in the cookie and wished it had less.” Junior Nicol Canenguez had the final verdict on this limited edition release, “the Loaded Oreos have a nice sweet taste to them, the texture is somewhat different, and something you aren’t used to, but still something new to enjoy.”

The Loaded Oreos are a limited edition flavor, so they are more difficult to find, but some grocery stores still have them on their shelves. Don’t worry! This month, Oreo released a flavor profile they have never created before, “Chocolate Covered Pretzel is the brand’s first-ever sweet and salty cookie…and is made with a sweet, chocolate-flavored creme sandwiched between two pretzel-flavored cookies. Each one is adorned with flakes of salt on the outside — just like you’d find on a pretzel” according to thekitchn.com. Reviews are favorable for this new flavor combination. Find it in stores or online before it disappears.
