This year at Wakefield we have a new after school club. Local law enforcement is offering a Girls Basic Self Defense class designed to give young girls the confidence and techniques they need to stay safe. This program is free and open to everyone, with classes led by certified instructors who focus on both physical defense skills and awareness.
This program is a collaboration between the Sheriff’s Office and APS to encourage young women to learn how to take charge of their own personal safety. Any participants who attend one session are welcome to return in the future for more training and information.
Students learn how to recognize unsafe situations, build confidence in their own abilities, and use defensive moves properly. This class highlights basic techniques that could be used in real life situations. Every woman should know how to defend herself, or at least know how to get out of dangerous situations.
Classes are held every Wednesday in the Wrestling Room from 3:30pm until 4:40pm for everyone at all skill levels, and no prior experience is required. Self Defense isn’t just learning how to fight back, it’s about building confidence and strength.
