Now is the pre-season for wrestling. This is the perfect time to give it a shot! Head down to room E-012 from 3:30 to 5:00 pm every Tuesday to see if wrestling is the sport for you. Some new members of the wrestling team were excited to share how the pre-season is going, in hopes of encouraging you to join!
New prospect Aiden Bonuedi (‘27) said,“The most exciting part of wrestling? Definitely improving,” a sentiment shared by many. This junior just began to attend green days this year, yet already finds this sport to be a perfect match. He is just one of around 20 wrestlers on the team, and many others agree that they find a new sense of satisfaction from the clear growth they’ve achieved, whether it be through years or just weeks of practice. The team has cultivated a space where anyone can feel safe enough to try, even if they have no experience. Wakefield’s wrestling team maintains an impressive record, with our male team ending last season with a record of 22 wins and 7 losses last year setting a new school record! Our female wrestlers left quite a mark last season. Class of 2025 Cameron Millsaaps was the first Girls State Champion from an Arlington school. 7 of the 8 girls wrestlers graduated last season, so only Fatima is representing the female wrestlers this season. Join Green Days now.
The more seasoned wrestlers mentioned that new members are always welcome in the community and they’re excited to see the number of new students already showing up. With a record so impressive, it’s no wonder the newly joined feel such positivity towards joining this legacy– and to think that anyone could be a part of it, too! With a positive environment that really encourages growth, one is easily able to see how they’ve earned a reputation for success.
Newcomers showing up to green days have the opportunity to learn techniques to overcome challenges in and out of the gym, explore new methods of exercising, and become part of a wonderful community here at Wakefield. Wrestling is always looking for new members, and because it’s a winter sport, there is plenty of time to consider your options. The season begins in November, with green days continuing up until the official season, so there’s no rush; but if this seems interesting to you the Wakefield wrestling team welcomes any and all interested with open arms. They hope to see you this Tuesday!
