News Blast: #deflategate
January 27, 2015
Last week, during the NFL conference championship weekend, the New England Patriots beat the Indianapolis Colts 45-7 in the AFC Championship game. The Patriots are allegedly part of a cheating scandal involving deflated game balls.
NFL rules require that game balls are inspected 2 hours and 15 minutes before each game. Sometime between then, and the start of the game, the balls were deflated below the allowed limit. The referees handled the balls for the entire game and did not notice the difference; a Colts’ linebacker, who rarely touches the balls, noticed the deflation. Penalties for the Patriots are being decided.
