After receiving the unexpected news Thursday afternoon that the varsity game would be moved to later that same night, the team had to quickly transition into game mode. Players scrambled, grabbed equipment from home, and made it back to the field on a cold and rainy night. There weren’t many people there because of the impending severe weather and last minute schedule change. That is when the best games seem to be played, when no one is watching.

Wakefield extended their winning streak to three games, beating the Mount Vernon Majors 45-0.

The Warriors started off hot on that cold Thursday night, with sophomore James Clark scoring a 15 yard touchdown on their opening possession. “I wanted to make the most of my first varsity start,” said Clark, who was filling in for the injured Leon Young. Clark did just that, ending the night with 76 yards and two touchdowns.

The Warriors offense didn’t slow down, as they took a 31-0 lead to the locker room at halftime. They had numerous players step up and contributed to the total of 421 rushing yards gained. The biggest producers were junior Fred Bowles who piled up 127 yards and two touchdowns, and senior Chris Robertson who rushed for 94 yards and one touchdown. Junior George Brooks also carried the ball 8 times for 83 yards.

While the Wakefield offense exploded for 45 points in the victory, the win can also be heavily credited to the outstanding defensive players. The Warriors held the Majors to a total of 48 yards of total offense and completed their first shutout of the season. Their defensive line dominated the line of scrimmage and the defense was able to quickly get the ball back to the offense.
