Germany vs. Northern Ireland: World Cup Qualifier

Tuesday, October 11th, Germany played Northern Ireland for their 3rd World Cup Qualifier game (winning the other two).

Lineups were as follows:

XI Germany | Neuer; Kimmich, Boateng, Hummels, Hector; Kroos, Khedira, Müller, Ozil, Draxler; Goetze.

XI Northern Ireland | McGovern; Hodson, Hughes, McAuley, Evans, Ferguson; Evans, Davis, Norwood; Ward, Magennis.

Germany start out the game strong as usual playing their usual possession tactic. They get an early chance in the 3rd minute with a delivery from muller to Goetze who has an open header from six yards but the goalkeeper (McGovern) reacted beautifully to keep the ball out of the goal. The german fullbacks are playing great as they help out the attack whipping crosses in from the left and the right. What a goal in the 13th minute!!!

After some great passing play Draxler strikes it from outside the box and puts it straight into the bottom right corner. And only 4 minutes afterwards another goal falls in the 17th minute. A cross is swung in from the left, met with a great header by Hummels which falls right into the path of Khedira who has an open net and heads it into the back of the net, McGovern has no chance.

What a goal, but sadly it was disallowed for offsides;  a delightful ball to Muller who meets it on the volley to Goetze who puts it in the back of the net, how unlucky!!! The whole rest of the game Kimich is pushing up the field and delivering balls to the forwards but no more goals have fallen. The rest of the game was uneventful besides a couple opportunities for Germany due to Ireland becoming weary and struggling to keep their legs going.

And that’s the final whistle, what a night!!!

World champions Germany maintained their 100% record in FIFA World Cup 2018 qualifying Group C.
