Netflix is about to give viewers $800 million dollars worth of original content. The $800 million will help with Netflix’s goal of having 50% or half of the content streamed to be original content. Netflix is currently the most viewed movie streaming service in the United States.

Netflix’s plan is to have at least 1,000 hours of new content on the website by 2017.  It’s tough to know how well the original content on Netflix is doing, because data is not released for every original about how much it is viewed.  Although the statistics are not released, the company recently released the data that the site has gained 3.57 million new subscribers in the third quarter which is almost one million more than they predicted!

In total, Netflix has a growing base of around 86 million members. Recent data also shows that original content is a big reason of Netflix’s user growth.
