The Wakefield Warriors Gymnastics team has been very successful at their last two meets, starting out the New Year better than ever!

These ladies took 3rd place out of 6 teams on Wednesday, January 4th. The Warriors finished in 3rd place beating Langley, Washington Lee, and Marshall High School, despite the fact that they were missing two of their top gymnasts; Anne Felipe and Mia Fischer. Senior Marika Mortimer said, “I don’t let my frustration get the better of me; I get confidence by pushing myself.”This attitude is why these ladies are doing so well this season.

The girls showed they were there to compete coming close to taking 2nd place. They finished within 8 points of South Lakes High School. They did their best and brought everything they had to the to the competition. Sophomore Gabby Spranger had another outstanding performance which helped the Warriors finish in 3rd place. Spranger placed 1st on vault with a score of 9.425, 2nd on the bars with 8.65, 2nd on the floor with 8.65, and finished 3rd all around. Freshman Mia Fisher said, “Don’t complain, don’t be let down by failure.”  The team does not give up, regardless of the circumstances.

The Warriors Gymnastics team competed at Marshall High School on Monday, January 9th, 2017. The Girls placed 2nd out of 5 schools, beating Stone Bridge High, South County High, and Hayfield Secondary school and finishing with 126 points in total. They came within one point of taking 1st place over their opponents from George C. Marshall High School who finished with 127 points. Sophomore Sydney Hanley finished 3rd on the vault with a score of 8.7, sophomore Anne Felipe was 3rd on the beam with 8.6. Spranger once again performed exceptionally with finishing 4th on the beam, 1st on the vault, bars, and on the floor. Gabby placed 1st place all-around with a score of 35.775.
