Our boys are in the playoffs! Come support them on their Senior Night TONIGHT.

Last Friday, the Warriors faced off against Stuart High School on the Raider’s Senior Night. After facing a hard loss to Falls Church the week before, the Warriors had to end the 5-game losing streak. The game was very back and forth but with exceptional performances from many key players, Wakefield ended with the dub 34-28.

The first half was very back and forth, the Warriors scored first, with a 15-yard touchdown pass from sophomore QB Cason Poythress to seniorWR David Baron, making it 7-0 at the end of the first quarter. Baron said, “we came out strong to start the game scoring on our first drive and that really gave us the momentum to keep playing hard throughout the game and helped us pick up the win.”

The second quarter started off with the Raiders responding with a touchdown making the score 7-7 with the ball back in the hands of the Warriors’ offense. The Warriors went right back with a strong drive down the field, ending with a 7-yard TD pass from Cason Poythress to senior Lamont McDowell. Wakefield scored one more time with a 10-yard TD run from senior Kesean Deshazer. Although the Warriors’ offense was hot, the Raiders scored twice more making the score 21-21 going into half-time.

In the third quarter, Wakefield came out ready to win with a TD run from junior Rodney Lee to make the score 27-21 after a blocked extra point. The third quarter ended without any scoring from the Raiders.

The fourth quarter began, and the Warriors were not done yet. They scored once more with another TD run from Kesean Deshazer making the score 34-21 with 5 minutes remaining. The Raiders drove down the field scoring once more making the score 34-28, Wakefield still on top. They controlled the ball for the rest of the game winning Stuart’s senior night and breaking the 5-game losing streak.

This victory could not have happened without the performances of Wakefield’s key players. QB Cason Poythress had a very accurate passing game, going 16/19 with 204 yards. RB Kesean Deshazer rushed for 107 yards. RB Rodney Lee rushed for 138 yards. WR David Baron with 67 yards, TE Lamont McDowell with 28 yards, junior Slot Lincoln Calfee with 54 yards, and senior WB James Clark with 14 yards.

This win for the Warriors was a big one. With the way the points system works, Wakefield’s few wins were all D6 wins, meaning double points, and the top 8 teams make the playoffs.

Wakefield currently sits in the number 8 spot, with a guaranteed playoff game, but whether they win their next game against Marshall High School, decides if they move up in the ranks, and play a different team.

Come out and support your Warriors at home on their Senior Night @ 7pm!
