The Heart of the Storm

At first,

It was a gentle patter

Like a summer shower

Covering me with a warm sense of security

I was so lost in his deep brown eyes with the flecks of gold in them

That I did not notice

How strong the rain was becoming

How dark the sky suddenly was

I was blind to the storm

F0rming inside of me

By the time I noticed how cold I was,

It was over

And in its place

Was just another sunny day

As if the storm had never happened

Only the memories remain

The laughs, the jokes, the gentle kisses

The nervous feeling in my stomach

And the dull ache in my heart

When it ended

It was fast

And it was enchanting

You were a beautiful mistake

That I don’t regret making.
