Dicks Sporting Goods Takes Assault Rifles off Counter

Two weeks after the heartbreaking video of the school shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida was released, Dick’s Sporting Goods took to Twitter to announce that they will no longer sell assault-style rifles to anyone. Nor will they sell firearms to anyone under the age of 21.

Edward Stack, the chief executive of Dick’s said, “When we saw what happened in Parkland, we were so disturbed and upset. We love these kids and their rallying cry. We’re going to take a stand and step up and tell people our view and, hopefully, bring people along into the conversation.”

In effect, Dick’s Sporting Goods is responding to the demands of these students before the government. By making guns less accessible, this could be a step to getting gun regulation in the United States. Stack also said, “If the kids in Parkland are being brave enough to stand up and do this, we can be brave enough to stand up with them.”
