Indoor Track is Harder and Even More Rewarding Than You Think

The Indoor Track season is in full stride now. It has not been an easy season losing their strongest runner as he graduated last year, but they are still finding success and could use your support. Go support our runners at their meets on Fridays at TJ.

“To be successful in indoor track it takes a lot of persistence and self motivation. If it is something you are interested in, just give it your all” said Junior Mohamed Mohamed. “By going to practice, eating right, and staying positive it is definitely possible to succeed in track.” That is good advice for life, too.

Sophomore Victor Choque said,  “Indoor track’s practice consists of four laps, a quick stretch, 25 push-ups, 25 sit-ups and some exercises that helps us stay in shape. On weekends, it’s important to work in the gym, it is also an essential part of off-season conditioning. Increasing strength and muscle endurance can help athletes perform better during their races.” It is not just showing up and running, it is being ready all the time to run.

When asked about common injuries sustained from races, Victor said “One of the most common is runner’s knee. It can have several different causes. It often happens when your kneecap is out of alignment.” Victor also said another common injuries is muscle strain which occurs by over-stretching a muscle. These words don’t even give justice to the pain these injuries can cause and how serious they are.

It is not all bad news. Running indoor track provides multiple benefits, including strengthening muscles and building strong bones, as it is a weight bearing exercise.
