Girls Basketball Get Ready for Playoffs with Jayela Lopez

The Wakefield Girls Basketball team did not start the first half of the season as strong as they would’ve liked. They seem to be struggling in conference play, and with playoffs starting next week the stakes are high. The girls will need to step up to the challenge to make any type of mark on the road to a State Title.

The first half of the season was rough with the warriors loosing some big games. “We struggled a lot in conference play due to a lot of inexperience and key players not showing up” said Junior Jayela Lopez . This year’s varsity team consists of 4 sophomores and a freshman, 2 of the sophomores did not even play varsity last year. They have a lot of team building to do to be solid for playoffs.

Jayela has stepped up big to the challenge, she seems in full control when on the court. When asked about her performance this season, she said, “the first half was a slow start, but since then I’ve dominated.” She truly is taking control on the court. She is averaging 14 points and 9.5 rebounds a game. Her highest scoring game was 27 points.

Come out and support the girls this Friday in a double header at Edison! This is the final game of the regular season. Varsity Girls play at 5:45pm.
