Isaiah Mefford: Field Athlete of the Meet
Isaiah Mefford gives us the inside scoop on what it feels like to be named “Field Athlete of the meet” at National District Indoor Track. He said, “It feels great; it was also surprising to hear that I got the award for long triple jump.”
And who has kept Mefford motivated to be the champion that he is? Coach Adam Alderton has helped this athlete become the powerhouse in Track and Field that he is today. Mefford said, “Coach wants me to go as far as possible…The night before the meet he texted me three keys to help myself win the 55 hundred, to do my best and being very encouraging. It is important for him to see me win, so that’s really good for me.“
Mefford doesn’t just work alone; “as a whole team were really improving over the years, because I think we got third overall in the meet which normally we don’t even get top five, so I’m really proud of the team.”
Mefford is very thankful for Coach A, who also got Coach of the Meet. Mefford said, “He has done a lot for me so that I can get as far as possible. Right now I need to get to Regionals, then hopefully States.”
Let’s go, Isaiah!
Cheer on Isaiah and the rest of the qualifying members of Track and Field as they compete at Regionals at the PG Sports Complex on Wednesday, 2/13 and Thursday, 2/14! Follow them on Twitter @runwakefield.
