Varsity Baseball: The Clash of the Senior Nights

Cason Poythress '20, Sports Editor

Varsity Baseball at Wakefield has been a force in the area for the past few seasons. Winning the majority of games and getting close to being Conference Champions. This season for the warriors has started slower than most, with more losses than the team has had in the past. The team is showing positive signs for success late in the season.

The Warriors have won 4 games this season and lost 9. The majority of the losses were within 1 or 2 runs and could have gone either way. The team seems to have found the way to tighten it up and get the runs when it matters.

Justice:

The Warriors faced off against the Justice Wolves in their season opener and lost a hard-fought game with a final score of 3-1.

Sidwell Friends:

The team bounced right back defeating Sidwell, 13-9.

Marshall:

The boys played against a far more prepared team and lost by a landslide. This game gave the team momentum to fight harder in the following games.

Lee:

After losing harshly to Marshall, the Warriors came out hot and defeated the Lee Lancers, 9-3.

Justice, Falls Church, and Edison:

Coming off of a win, the Warriors didn’t compete to their highest ability, losing three consecutive games. They had to find internal motivation going into Spring Break.

Spring Break Tournament:

Over Spring Break, the boys had the opportunity to compete against some great teams in Myrtle Beach, SC. The boys won one of the three games. Each game lost came from one unfortunate inning, and then not being able to recover from that inning.

Field School:

After a long spring break of playing baseball at the beach, the team wanted to bring those relaxing beach vibes back home with them. They did just that, beating Field School, 13-3.

Thomas Jefferson: THIS IS WHERE THE COMPETITION HEATS UP!

The Warriors came out ready to compete after so many games cancelled due to weather. Last night, 5/7, the boys defeated the TJ Colonials 3-0 on their field, on their Senior Night. It was a beautiful shut out. The team communicated well and stopped some almost runs to the plate.

Senior Night is TONIGHT:

The team’s SENIOR NIGHT is TONIGHT, Wednesday, May 8th at 6pm. The Warriors will face the TJ Colonials again tonight; yes, it is back to back nights. Come out and support your Warriors as they compete at home on Senior Night. Held defend home field, Warriors!

With the season coming to an end, the team is preparing for playoffs. Their first game of the playoffs is this Friday against the Justice Wolves.

UPDATE:

Our Boys lost on Wednesday to TJ. They start playoffs today (Friday, May 10th). Warrios play at Justice at 6pm.
