The Washington Commanders have gotten off to a great start in the 2023 NFL season, going 2-2 in their first four games. The team is ready to have a significant impact in the NFC East division under the direction of Head Coach Ron Rivera and a good roster. Let’s review their early-season performance in more depth and think about what it means for the Commanders’ upcoming season.
Commanders’ Strong Defense
The Washington Commanders’ strong defense has been one of the season’s greatest aspects so far. The team, which has become known for its tough defensive line and pass rush, has continued where it left off the previous season. The addition of rookie linebacker Jermaine Johnson II has shown to be wise, while defensive end Chase Young remains a force to be reckoned with. The Commanders’ defense has consistently stopped opposing offenses and forced turnovers in their first four games, assisting in the achievement of two significant victories.
Washington’s Offensive Weapons
The Commanders’ offense is starting to move now that they have a variety of new players at their disposal. Antonio Gibson, a running back with receiver and rushing skills as well, has shown to be a reliable alternative. While rookie Dyami Brown occasionally showed the makings of a big play, wide receiver Terry McLaurin remains a steady target for Howell. As the season goes on, the attacking team of the Commanders is likely to become even more dynamic and balanced.
Record so far is 2-2
Washington’s first two games ended with wins, home against the Arizona Cardinals and away against the Denver Broncos. However the latest two games had resulted in losses. 37-3 with a Bills victory, the Buffalo Bills had gained 218 yards in the air and 168 on the ground. The Bills had gained a total 386 yards on the Washington Commanders, the Commanders offensive had only gained 125 in the air and 105 on the ground. During the game the Commanders struggled to throw the ball and gave up four interceptions. In week 4, the Commanders went against the superbowl runner ups, the Philadelphia Eagles. During the game it was neck to neck with both offenses throwing 300 yards each and 100 yards on the ground. Late in the game Washington was down by one touchdown with 10 seconds. Washington made the game go into overtime, however the Eagles forced Washington to punt and Eagles scored a field goal. Washington fought hard, but lost, with the final score, 31-34.
As The Season Progresses
The Washington Commanders have had a strong start to the 2023 season, showing both their offensive and defensive potential. The team’s determination and Coach Ron Rivera’s leadership are obvious which speaks well for their chances as the season progresses. The fans eagerly anticipate each game, because they want to see their team grow. If the Commanders can maintain their pace, a postseason berth and perhaps even a lengthy postseason run are extremely likely.
