Three weeks ago the Charlotte riots engulfed the city. Ken E Nwadike Jr (creator of the Free Hugs Project) gave a hug to an officer in riot gear and the officer’s response was unexpected.

“His uniform does not make him a robot… just like the color of your skin doesn’t make you a criminal” Nwadike said to a protester when questioned; the officer was astonished as Ken approached to hug him but he also was quite happy and thankful that he did. “Thank you for being out here and being peaceful” the officer said in the video which captured the moment and posted on the Free Hugs Project Facebook page.

The Free Hugs Project started in 2013 after the Boston Marathon Bombing. Nwadike was inspired to travel across America spreading a message of peace and love through hugs. He also drew attention with his Free Hugs Project at a Bernie Sander Rally and a Donald Trump Rally.
