Across all sports, there’s no better feeling than seeing history unfold before your very eyes. It’s the thrill of seeing generational athletes break records that no one thought were possible. Over the last few seasons in the NBA, we’ve seen so many of these untouchable achievements fall, and this year is no exception. So here are the three biggest records broken this season.
Bam Adebayo’s 83 Becomes the Second-Highest Scoring Game All-Time
On a seemingly random game on March 10, 2026, between the Miami Heat and the Washington Wizards, Bam Adebayo would score 83 points, passing Kobe Bryant’s 81 points in 2006 for the second-highest scoring game in NBA history. Despite how accustomed we are to these high-scoring performances, no one was prepared for what Adebayo just did.
To score this many points, you have to shoot a lot of shots, which Adebayo did, going 20/43 for the night. But what really gave him a chance was his hot start, scoring 31 points in the first quarter alone, and by halftime, Adebayo already had 43.
Coming out of the half, he kept his momentum, because just as the third quarter ended, Adebayo had reached 60 points. At this point, fans could sense that something huge was about to unfold in the remaining quarter of the game, and they weren’t wrong.
Adebayo’s points kept climbing, reaching 70 with still a lot of time left in the game. Another key part of his performance was his ability to draw fouls, as Adebayo set the NBA record for most free throw attempts and makes in a game, going 36/43 from the line.
By this point, Adebayo was getting not just double-teamed, but triple-teamed, full court, to prevent what seemed like the inevitable. But he kept getting fouled, and eventually Adebayo was sent to the stripe, making a couple of free throws to score 81 points, tying the record.
Then, on the next possession, Adebayo drew another foul, and he stepped onto the line once again to make two more free throws, ending his night with 83 points and cementing himself in NBA history.
With this historic performance, Adebayo has opened the doors up once again to the possibility of beating Wilt Chamberlain’s 100 points in 1962, but only time will tell.
LeBron James Breaks the All-Time Field Goal Record
Over the last decade, we’ve witnessed greatness, but never before in this fashion, as LeBron James enters his 23rd NBA season, becoming the league’s longest-tenured player, passing Vince Carter, who retired after his 22nd NBA season.
James’ longevity isn’t to be taken lightly, as it has allowed him to become one of the most storied players in basketball history. James isn’t a stranger to breaking records as they’ve have been a common trend for him in the last few years, notably he became the all-time leader in points in 2023 with his point total currently at 43,253, passing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the honor, a record he’s held since 1984.
Coming into this year, James was on the verge of a few major records, including the all-time field goals made record, once again set by Abdul-Jabbar in 1989 with 15,837 made shots. After the conclusions of last year’s season, James had 15,488 field goals, meaning he only needed 349 more made shots to pass the record.
Finally, on March 5, 2026, in a matchup between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Denver Nuggets, James would drain the record-breaking shot with a corner fadeaway, placing him on top of the leaderboard, with 15,893 as of now. Along the way, James also set the record for the most games played all-time with 1614, passing Robert Parish’s record in 1997.
With James’ career likely coming to a close within the next few years, it’ll be interesting to see how many more records he can break before he decides to officially hang it up.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Breaks the Most Consecutive 20+ Point Game Streak
In basketball, there are few skills more valuable than consistency, yet for so many players it’s hard to achieve. Despite this, one player has mastered the craft, and that’s none other than Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Across the league, there is no other player as consistent day in and day out as the reigning league MVP, and it’s not even close.
This year, Gilgeous-Alexander took his game to another level as he entered the season on pace to beat Wilt Chamberlain’s record for the most consecutive 20+ point games, which has stood at 126 games since 1961.
Gilgeous-Alexander officially began his streak on November 1, 2024, and since then, he has been one of the league’s best scorers. In fact, over the length of his 20+ point run, Gilgeous-Alexander has averaged just above 30 points per game, an incredible stretch of consistency, which has helped lead his team to another first seeding in the Western Conference.
While there have been some close calls during his streak, nothing has stopped him so far, and on March 12, 2026, in a game between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Boston Celtics, Gilgeous-Alexander broke through, scoring 20 points and pushing his streak to 127. As of now, he’s currently at 131 straight games, and it will be interesting to see just how far Gilgeous-Alexander can keep pushing the record further.
